Vistax includes a curated library of over 40 analog film simulations, covering a wide range of photographic styles:

  • Color negative films — Warm tones, natural skin colors, and the classic look of consumer and professional color film stocks

Unlike apps that only apply filters after the shot, Vistax shows your selected film simulation live in the viewfinder as you compose your shot. See your intended mood and style before you press the shutter.

Non-Destructive Workflow

Every film simulation in Vistax is applied non-destructively:

  • The original unaltered image data is always preserved
  • Retrieve the original at any time using iOS photo edits
  • Choose whether to save the original as an iOS photo edit (reversible) or as a separate file
  • Switch between simulations after the fact

Custom .cube LUT Import

Go beyond the built-in simulations by importing your own .cube LUT (Look-Up Table) files:

  • Design your own look in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, or any tool that exports .cube files
  • Import community LUTs — Use .cube files shared by other photographers and colorists
  • Unlimited creative possibilities — Reproduce any classic film stock, create unique color grades, design custom black and white contrast curves
  • Imported LUTs work everywhere built-in simulations do: live viewfinder, camera capture, and photo editing

How to Create Custom Film Simulations

  1. Create or download a .cube LUT file using your preferred photo editing software
  2. Transfer the .cube file to your iPhone (via AirDrop, Files app, or email)
  3. Open the file with Vistax, or import it from within the app
  4. Your custom simulation appears in your Vistax filter library alongside the built-in options

Vistax Photo Extension

Apply Vistax film simulations to photos already in your library — without leaving the Photos app:

  • Open any photo in the iOS Photos app
  • Tap Edit, then tap the Extensions button
  • Select Vistax to browse and apply any film simulation
  • Works with both built-in and custom imported simulations

Wide Color Gamut Support

All film simulations — built-in and custom — operate in the full Display P3 wide color gamut. This means richer reds, deeper greens, and more vivid colors than standard sRGB processing, taking advantage of your iPhone’s display capabilities.
